As today is the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1989, I recall, with great fondness the weekend that I spent there, in 1990. As a recent college graduate, I yearned to see and experience life beyond New England. Like many young people, I decided to backpack, across Europe. I also knew that I wanted to participate in daily life. Opportunity called and I was invited to participate, in an international volunteer program, I.J.G.D., in Gevelsburg, Germany, in July, 1990. While, I was there the "Concert at the Wall" was held. My friends and I traveled to Berlin that weekend. We were told that the concert was sold out. Fate intervened when I met a German man, who obtained tickets for us. I have wonderful memories of this event, as well as the Germans, whom I met. Special thanks to him and also to my Aunt Erin and Uncle Bob, who met me at the airport that summer. (More on this life changing trip, in future posts). Blessed with the opportunity, I took this image, at sunset that day, before the unforgettable concert. Hope was in the air. Guten Tag.

Traveling and Observing

When traveling to a new city, I'm eager to document my travels via photography. Some of the challenges, as a visitor are observing, without intruding. Another is adapting to the local light. I found that the frequent overcast skies, in Ireland prevented harsh shadows. The soft lighting gave this old, stone building a warm glow.

Boston View...

Recently, I saw this clear view of Boston, as I sailed with my crew in the Harbor Islands Regatta. The Harbor Islands are now part of the National Park Service and are a wonderful day trip, from various ports along Massachusetts Bay.
